Draft Mon guide: how to climb the Battle Tower

Draft Mon is a free Pokémon roguelike you play in your browser. You draft a team of 6 Pokémon, prepare it, then battle your way up an endless Tower. This guide explains every step of a run.

The draft: building your team

Every run starts with a six-round draft. Each round, the game offers you three Pokémon cards and you keep only one. After six picks, your team is complete.

The three difficulty levels

ModeDraftBetween battles
EasyOnly fully evolved forms, with a ready-to-use buildHP restored after each battle
NormalEvery evolution stage, build to set up yourselfHP restored after each battle
HardEvery evolution stage, build to set up yourselfHP and status conditions carry over between battles

Your best floor and the Badges you earn are recorded separately for each difficulty.

Preparing your team

In Normal and Hard, you set up each Pokémon before entering the Tower: nature, ability, held item, EV spread, Tera Type and four moves. EVs are spread on a base of 32 points per stat, with a cap of 66 points in total.

The Team Builder, available from the home screen, is a separate tool: it lets you prepare up to 10 teams, compare damage between two Pokémon with the game's real battle engine, and import or export in Pokémon Showdown format.

The Battle Tower

You climb the Tower floor by floor, and the difficulty keeps rising with no cap. Each floor is a battle against a trainer.

Trainers get smarter as you climb: from floor 5 they estimate the real damage of each move, from floor 6 their Pokémon hold items, and from floor 12 they use status moves at the right time and can switch out a Pokémon in trouble.

Battle mechanics

Battles follow the rules of the main series games: types, abilities, held items, weather, terrains, entry hazards and status conditions. Four special mechanics are available, each tied to a held item:

The Camp

After each win against a Mini-Boss or a Type Master, you stop at the Camp before resuming your climb.

Progress between runs

A defeat ends the run, but two currencies are kept forever.

Tower Tokens and Starting Boosts

Every defeat earns Tower Tokens based on the number of floors cleared: one token per 8 floors in Easy, per 4 floors in Normal and per 2 floors in Hard (rounded up). They are traded for permanent Starting Boosts:

Affinity Candies

Affinity Candies are earned by beating trainers and at the Safari House. Given to the Professor, they raise a line's Affinity level from 0 to 5. The higher the level, the more often that line appears in the draft and at the Ranch, up to twice as often at the maximum level. The bonus applies to the whole line, evolution branches included.

Saving

The game has 5 save slots. Everything is stored in your browser, with no account or server: see the Privacy page (in French) for details.
